About the artist
MY NAME IS SUE HINTON AND I'M A SURREY-BASED, LARGELY SELF-TAUGHT ARTIST.
Although interested in art from my school days, it wasn’t until 2002 that I picked up a paintbrush in earnest, when I spent an inspiring week in Cornwall with the very talented Janet Shearer, who shared her extensive knowledge of mural painting, perspective and so much more. I went on to develop my skills in acrylic paints with the help of my local art society, art books and, more recently, YouTube demonstrations. Twenty years on and now retired, the learning continues.
I spend as much time as I can in my studio. During the pandemic I started experimenting with alternative media and coloured pencils have become my chosen medium for more detailed works. I'm still fascinated by realism and trompe l’oeil and, although I particularly like creating murals, my subject matter is very varied – essentially, I paint or draw whatever takes my fancy.
I exhibit regularly with Woking Art Society at The Lightbox in Woking and have undertaken various commissions. Prices are agreed at the outset, strictly according to requirement, but generally starting at around £100-£150. Since I’m lucky enough not to have to earn my living through art, I donate profits made from selling my paintings to charity.
